HISTORY: In his will, David Young, who died in 1820, provided
for the establishment of three almshouses in Lincolnshire. By
1970, with no funds for necessary repairs to the by-now vacant
properties, the trustees, on the advice of the Charity Commission,
sought guidance from the St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP). It
was decided to sell the properties and use the proceeds to establish
a fund, the income from which could be used to alleviate need,
hardship or distress through grants either to individuals or to
organisations. To this end, the DYC was established in 1978. It
is run by four trustees who are each appointed by the National
Council of the SVP.
WORKING PRACTICE:
Trustees give careful consideration to all applications, agreeing
whether or not the case matches the criteria of the Charity. All
current Trustees are familiar with the work of the Trust and in
addition have professional or lay knowledge of the operation of
trusts and charities. At twice-yearly meetings the Trustees agree
a broad strategy including grant making, investment review, reserves
and risk management and performance.
The Trust does not employ any staff, its affairs being organised,
maintained and administered by the Trustees.
RISK MANAGEMENT:
The Trustees have considered the major risks to which the Trust
is exposed and have reviewed those risks and established systems
and procedures to manage those risks. The Trustees consider variability
of investment returns to constitute the major risk and review
the spread of investments regularly and frequently. Financial
controls are in place and reviewed regularly.
PUBLIC BENEFIT STATEMENT:
The Trustees are aware of the appropriate guidance published by
the Charity Commission and consider that they have complied with
Section 17 of the Charities Act 2011 with regard to public benefit.
The focus of the Trust remains the award of grants and donations
to a wide variety of charitable organisations which themselves
provide considerable benefit.
AID TO ST VINCENT DE PAUL MEMBERS: The David Young's Charity is a separate registered charity and is therefore able to give assistance to SVP members, staff and volunteers who find themselves in difficult financial circumstances. As with all applications, any help is strictly confidential. Applications are forwarded through Conference Presidents or District Council Presidents.

main income streams are Investments and Donations.

to £10,193.29

gave a total of £100
